Wonderful. Now please add a language with 10 million speakers across 3 EU countries: Catalan.
Many of the EU official languages have far less speakers. There's no reason whatsoever for discriminating against 10 million of your own citizens.

Among the 24 languages, Catalan has as many speakers as:
* Portuguese
* Czech
... and close to Swedish, Greek and Hungarian.
Catalan has more speakers than:
* Bulgarian
* Croatian
* Danish
* Finnish
* Norwegian
* Slovak
* Lithuanian
* Slovene
* Irish
* Maltese
Catalan would list as No. 12 in Europe. Considering there are 27 countries in the EU, official status is more than warranted.
